Hey Drub :) Good to hear from you mate. Sounds like you've got some serious (but rewarding) work ahead of you. Good luck!

Billy, how can you be bored by gardening  I find gardening to be one of the most relaxing and destressing things that I can do, even when I have to do the 'hard' stuff. And it's usually free or dirt (hah!) cheap too. Good thing you've got a bro' that's happy among the plants. He sounds like a fine chap :D

While I'm here, there are a couple of other things I've remembered about compost.

Add your hair and nail clippings whenever you cut either. It may not seem like much (especially if you're folically-challenged like yours truly), but it all counts.

And occasionally piss on your heap. Some folk suggest diluting it up to 20:1 first but I never bother. Then again, I am a reasonably healthy vegan who drinks enough tea to keep my piss nice and clear most of the time. In fact, I use diluted piss (1 normal piss to around 7 litres of water) as a plant food fairly regularly as part of their varied natural diet.

i have a garden in my old house in the village, i grow tomatoes, spring onions, beets, pepper plants, i'm bored to care them all the time so my bro does the most of hard work.

i also got some flowers (rosebushes, red dahlias and a few rhododendrons), this year i wanted to plant tulips, red and yellow and white tulips everywhere but i was late, in May is too hot here to start planting, you need to do this in March or so.

Awesome post! I was hoping with spring here you'd post a garden centric one soon. I'm doing a bit of the same at the new pad. Removing all water hogging plant life to prep the place where a lawn used to be is a big task as SoCal is headed for serious drought territory. I'm thinking about doing some raised beds for tomatoes but my focus is ornamental grasses, cacti and succulents!
