ACE is a self-managed social resource centre. We're open for groups or individuals to use who are trying to make a better society and improve their lives. If you have a project you want to get off the ground but are struggling for lack of resources ACE is the place for you. There's also different projects already happening at ACE who'd all love for new folk to get involved.
We welcome you to drop by when we're open or to come to one of our friendly open organising meetings (check website for opening / meeting times).
The Centre houses the Leith wholefoods co-op shop, has an infoshop, offers access to the Scottish Radical Library books & DVDs and free internet access.
We are child friendly and wheel chair accessible.
ACE exists to support and encourage people to take more control of their lives. We believe in people co-operating as equals to create a shared world free from exploitation. We work together in the spirit of mutual aid.
Since 2006 Bristol Radical History Group (BRHG) have organised a bewildering range of history events; staging walks, talks, gigs, reconstructions, films, exhibitions, trips through the archives and fireside story telling. We also publish a range of pamphlets and host an archive on this website.
Bristol Radical History Group events are organised by local people from Bristol and are NOT funded by Universities, Political Parties, Business or Local Government. To break even we rely on donations from the audience at meetings and the sale of books.
The Hydra is a community bookshop, coffee shop and meeting place based on Old Market in central Bristol. As well as selling some of the best coffee and cake in the city, we stock 'radical' literature on a wide range of issues; politics, history, feminism, animal rights, environmentalism that it may be difficult to track down in the usual high-street bookshops (if you can find one!). The bookshop provides a meeting space, as well as an outlet for independent non-commercial publishers and authors to make their books and ideas accessible to the wider community. Run by local people as a workers co-operative, the shop grew out of Bristol Radical History Group and similar networks across the city.
Pickled Pooh Records & Distro is a D.I.Y. project originally set up to help co release Burnt Cross 'Mankind's Obituary', but then started to add a few items too for a small distro. Hoping to add more stock ASAP.
Internal Autonomy started in about 1986, having briefly been called Neither Slaves nor Masters. We released several demo tapes - Song and Speech, Cause of Liberty, Capitalism on Sulphate, The 4th Demo. Then the LP Inquiry, followed by EP's Love and Life, Tired of Sleeping and Only You Have The Power. Then along came the 90's and saw IA morph into Autonomex with a trance techno sound... and... and nothing... until Al and I meet up again about 20 years after the first time (although he didn't have a blue and red Mohawk this time!)... and decided to do some more recording, and here we are - with old and new members, hoping to put out a new album sometime this year.
Faintest Idea are a fast explosive punk and two tone ska band with deep, hard hitting dual vocals and addictive brass. From their energetic live performance, it's no suprise they have an ever growing army of loyal fans. Mixing an exciting concoction of their influences - The Filaments, Rancid, Inner Terrestrials,The Specials, Toots and the Maytals etc. - this band has its own sonic blast punk injected sound that is too rare to comprehend on its own
Hammer Time! is a collection of projects that provide people with accessible information and resources used to responsibly create and obtain what they need. Unlike traditional “charities” or “emergency providers” who may only offer hand outs, HT! confronts the roots of poverty, hunger, and inequality by offering individuals and communities alternative methods to support themselves. We strive to promote creativity, reuse, participatory decision making, self-determination, equal forms of exchange, and more meaningful connections with the things we use as well as each other.
