Radical Spaces

Anarcho-friendly projects offering everything from infoshops to venues
The 1 in 12 Club started in 1981, evolving from the local Claimants Union. Originally the Club organised social events in various local pubs and clubs. We now have our own building that is member-owned and home to a number of collectives (including a caff and a record label among others). We also host regular gigs and meetings.

AnarchistU is an open, volunteer-run, non-hierarchical collective that organizes community events, workshops and a variety of courses on arts and sciences. Most courses run for ten weeks, and meet once a week. There are no admission fees.

We offer an open, collaborative, radical way of learning built on democratic models of education, structure and process. We are working to build a vibrant and productive community free from the struggles for power, profit and prestige that are the consequences of existing social and economic structures. The AFU also acts as a space that critiques the ongoing forms of oppression that result from this.

The Centre houses the Leith wholefoods co-op shop, has an infoshop, offers access to the Scottish Radical Library books & DVDs and free internet access.

We are child friendly and wheel chair accessible.

ACE exists to support and encourage people to take more control of their lives. We believe in people co-operating as equals to create a shared world free from exploitation. We work together in the spirit of mutual aid.

The Cowley Club is a libertarian social centre on London Road in Brighton. It houses a cafe and bookshop during the day, a members bar during the evenings, it also has a library and is a base for a variety of other projects.

The club is collectively owned and run as a base for those involved in grassroots social change and those sympathetic to such activities, giving us control over our social space and resources. It is run entirely by volunteers - no one gets paid, and no one is making any profit. Instead, we are trying to provide a much needed alternative to everything else around us.

Cranks is a new do it yourself bicycle workshop in Brighton. We have all the tools you need to fix your bike and a large collection of new and used parts to help get you back on the road.

Cranks is entirely volunteer run and not for profit. We want to help people keep their bikes on the road and enjoy cycling. We want to recycle old bikes that would otherwise be rusting away and we want to help you learn how to fix and look after your bike.

We also recycle old unwanted bikes so if you know of a bike that is not being used and in need of a new home please donate it to us. And of course if you are looking for a bike come along and check out our recycled bikes that are for sale.

We want to encourage everyone whatever your age, gender or knowledge to learn to love your bike.
